How to have a wedding day to remember

Your wedding day is supposedly one of the happiest days of your life. But so many people say that it flies by so fast, they can hardly remember anything about it.

So in this article we have some really helpful tips for you on how to have a wedding day to remember. Things that you can do before the day and on the day itself to make the day as special as you want it to be.

Things to do before your wedding day

We’re not talking about all the planning for the wedding and reception here. We want to look at three things to do just for you, and that will help you to enjoy your day when it arrives.

  • Enjoy yourself

You can get so bogged down in wedding arrangements that everything else just goes out of the window. It can even get to the point where you begin to resent everything to do with the wedding and just wish you’d not bothered. But don’t let things get to that point. Carve out time to go and enjoy yourself.

Whether that’s hiding away with your favourite book, movie or box set, going for a walk or a swim, treating yourself to a relaxing massage, or just having a few drinks with some of your favourite friends, make sure you just get on and do it. Instead of becoming Bridezilla, remember who you really are and keep enjoying your non-wedding life.

  • Spend time with your partner

It seems very strange, but in the run up to the wedding you may suddenly realise that you are not spending much time with your partner. It’s all too easy to lose each other in the midst of all the frenzy of wedding-related activity. But those pre-wedding days are very special too, so it’s important to make quality time for each other.

Why not set one or more date nights, some of the last you’ll spend together before being married. You could even revisit some of the important landmarks in your relationship so far; perhaps the place you first met, or the first proper date you had together. Or just spend time over a couple of drinks going through old photos and reminiscing.

As well as being an enjoyable break from wedding stuff, these times together can help to remind you of what drew you together in the first place and why you want to get married, and can make your wedding day even more special.

  • Get plenty of rest

Wedding days can be quite tiring, so the last thing you want is to turn up already feeling weak and exhausted. So do all that you can to get a few good nights’ sleep in the run up to the wedding. Here are some things that may help:

  • Try to head for bed a little earlier than usual and build in a relaxing activity such as a warm bath, a good book, music or a podcast.
  • Start getting up at the time you will need to get up for the wedding. This will help to get your body’s circadian rhythms into a regular routine.
  • Avoid a big meal, alcohol, tea or coffee for at least a couple of hours before bedtime, ideally longer.
  • Limit your screen time for at least an hour before going to bed, and ideally leave your phone and other devices outside the bedroom when you settle down to sleep.
  • Keep your bedroom as dark and quiet as possible. Use curtains, blinds or an eye mask to keep out the light, and earplugs if there is external noise.

Things to do on your wedding day

Always remember that it is your day. Everyone will want your attention, and everyone will expect different things from you. But it is the one day of your life when you are fully entitled to put yourself first.

Three things that may help are:

  • Take your time

You really don’t want to be in a rush today! So work out your timings and get up in plenty of time to do everything you need to do. But don’t fill every minute with activity, build in time to enjoy the moment too. Just taking regular breaks to breathe, drink in your surroundings, and reflect on the importance of the day can help to calm you down and put everything into perspective.

  • Keep fed and watered

You may not feel like a huge breakfast, but do try and eat something in the morning. Depending on the time of your wedding, you may not be eating till well into the afternoon and you don’t want to feel faint or dizzy. If you can’t face breakfast, then make sure you have healthy snacks to graze on during the preparation. Perhaps even have one or two friends hang onto some emergency snacks if you need them at any stage of the proceedings.

It’s also really important to stay hydrated. Drink small amounts of water regularly so that you will stay alert, and your mouth won’t feel dry. Avoid the temptation to drink too much alcohol, particularly before the wedding. One glass of champagne is great, but too many will dehydrate you and could interfere with your enjoyment of the ceremony.

  • Record every minute

You want to be able to enjoy every minute of your day in the present, but also know that they are being recorded for the future. So as well as your professional photographer, if you are having one, make sure you have plenty of trusted friends and family members taking photographs of the day. You may want to agree in advance if there are particular moments you want certain people to focus on. Then as you enjoy your day, you will also have the excitement of knowing that you will be able to relive any part of it again later.

After your wedding you can spend happy times looking through all your photographs and choosing those that are most important to you. Then why not preserve them with stylish metal wall art from Print Your Memory? You can display your favourite wedding photos with pride in your home, and be reminded every day of your happy day.

We hope that these tips help you to have a wedding day to remember. Congratulations to you both, from all of us at Print Your Memory.
